Manchester United and Newcastle United played out a goalless draw at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon as both teams looked to secure their first points of the season.
The match was a low-key affair, with neither side creating many clear-cut chances in front of goal. Manchester United started brightly, with Bruno Fernandes testing the Newcastle goalkeeper early on, but the home side were able to keep them at bay for much of the first half.
However, it was Newcastle who had the best chance of the game in the second half when Callum Wilson fired wide from just outside the box. The visitors continued to push forward in search of an equaliser, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
As the game entered the final stages, Manchester United were able to hold on for a point, thanks to a late save from Marcus Rashford. With just over five minutes left to play, Rashford rose highest to head home a corner from Anthony Martial, securing all three points for his team.
Despite the lack of goals, the draw means that Manchester United remain without a win this season, while Newcastle have also failed to register a point so far. It will be interesting to see how the teams perform in the coming weeks as they look to get off to a good start in the Premier League.
